Managing PrestaShop: Part 1 – Getting Started
Setting up and managing an ecommerce site that’s efficient and is a profitable aid to your business can seem daunting, but it doesn’t need to be. In this guide series, we’ll introduce you to the different areas and functionality of your website as well as offer hints and tips to make the most out of your site, pushing your business further.
Note: Functionality may vary due to the access roles applied to your account.
PrestaShop is a dedicated ecommerce software platform, allowing you to build and manage a website that sells products and/or services in an easy and efficient manner.
This guide relates to PrestaShop version 1.6. This version came with substantial changes to the back-end of the software, and changed some processes associated with managing an ecommerce website. As a result the majority of this guide might not be applicable to previous versions of PrestaShop.
Your Website Details
As part of your website set-up, you will have been provided with the relevant details to login to the admin area of your website. This will include:
- Your site’s login url: com/adminXXXX
- Your login email: You@YourSite.com
- Your password
Login to the Dashboard
Using the account details you have been given, login to your account. You will then be directed to the dashboard.
The dashboard is designed to show you brief information about what is happening with various parts of the website, such as sales figures and order counts and statuses.
The PrestaShop Navigation Set
The PrestaShop navigation consists of three main areas, all of which are viewable throughout the admin area of the website:
- Quick Access Navigation
This area gives you quick and easy navigation to various parts of the website.
On the left-hand side of this menu, you’ll see your site’s notifications on the latest orders, customers, contact messages and site achievements. You can also quickly create new categories, products or vouchers, by clicking on the “Quick Access” menu and choosing one of the available options.
On the right-hand side of this menu you’ll can go view your shop by clicking on “My Shop”. You can also logout and view/edit your personal details by clicking on your name, and selecting one of the available options.
- Page Navigation
The page navigation contains functions relating to the page, this navigation can include: Preview, Delete, Sales and Help (on how to use the current page).
- Main Navigation
The main navigation contains all the functions you’ll need to manage your ecommerce website:
Shows a brief overview of your site, and is the first page you land on after logging in.
Allows you to manage your products and how they are sorted (within categories and tags), manage product manufacturers and suppliers.
Allows you to manage your orders, invoices order messages and any other order-related functions
Allows you to manage your customers and their details, view shopping carts that haven’t yet been processed (and paid for), contact messages from customers, and contact form subjects (as well as the email addresses those subjects should direct to).
- Price Rules
Allows you to manage product and cart discounts, and the validity of those discounts, such as when they should apply, and who can make use of them.
Allows you to expand the functionality of your, adding customer service options, payment gateways and more.
Allows you to manage how your products are shipped, the price users will pay, and additional rules, such as free delivery requirements.
Allows you to manage features and settings related to local and global regions, including countries, currencies, tax rules and translations.
Allows you to configure your site’s settings, such as: whether customers need an account to register, the default sorting order of your products, the content of certain site pages and more.
